Orioles probable pitchers & starting lineups vs. Twins, September 29

We’ve finally reached the end of the 2024 regular season. It’s a sad day for many baseball fans but thankfully we’ll be able to watch the Orioles for a bit longer as they’ll head to the AL Wild Card series starting Tuesday night.

The Orioles resilience working to overcome a variety of injuries and second half challenges is nothing short of commendable. Having lost 3 of the 5 pitchers in the Opening Day rotation, along with countless other IL trips, the Orioles could have collapsed and missed the playoffs entirely.

Thankfully they were able to battle through and we’ll get to pack Camden Yards this week. The Orioles will take on either the Tigers or the Royals depending on the results of today’s games. If the Tigers win, they’ll head to Baltimore regardless of what the Royals do. However, if the Royals are able to win and the Tigers lose, Kansas City would jump Detroit thanks to owning the tiebreaker.

The results of the Orioles game won’t affect the Wild Card standings at all but we’ll still be hoping for a win while keeping an eye on those other two games.

Probable starting pitchers

  • Albert Suarez will take the mound for Baltimore today. It’s likely that his start will be abbreviated but he probably won’t start for the Orioles in the Wild Card series. If the upcoming series requires a third game, it’s possible that Suarez could pitch out of the bullpen on short rest, so Brandon Hyde might want to keep Suarez under 80 pitches this afternoon. Regardless, Suarez has had a heck of a year, posting a career best 3.74 ERA in 31 games.
  • Twins righty Bailey Ober will toe the rubber opposite Suarez this afternoon. Ober is 12-8 with a 3.94 ERA on the year. He’s been one of the Twins’ more consistent starters but with nothing on the line, it’s possible that manager Rocco Baldelli will have a quick hook and look to rely heavily on the bullpen in this one.
