Kelly to family medical leave list, Velasquez starts originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

The White Sox placed reliever Joe Kelly on the family medical leave list prior to Sunday’s series finale against the Tigers.

Lefty Tanner Banks was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. The White Sox also named Vince Velasquez the probable starter for Sunday.

Kelly has made 39 appearances in his first season with the Sox, holding a 6.42 ERA. He pitched in Friday and Saturday’s games against the Tigers, allowing a hit while striking out three.

Velasquez has made 22 appearances this season, including eight starts.

Banks has spent the season between the Sox and Charlotte. He holds a 3.26 ERA in 32 appearances (47 innings).
