Where Phillies’ 2022 MLB playoff chances stand in National League Wild Card race

Staff report

Where Phillies stand in 2022 NL Wild Card playoff race originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia

The Phillies increased their lead over the only relevant teams trailing them in the National League wild-card race by beating the Marlins Wednesday night as the Padres lost to the Mariners and the Brewers fell to the Cardinals.

The Phils have a relatively firm hold on the five-seed in the NL playoff race. They’re 2½ games ahead of San Diego and 4½ ahead of Milwaukee.

They’ve won five in a row and go for the sweep tomorrow night in Miami.

After finishing a two-game series in St. Louis, the Brewers return to Milwaukee to host the Yankees, then the Mets.

The Mets are skidding at the wrong time. They were swept at home by the Cubs and are just 4-7 in their last 11 games, all against the Nationals, Pirates, Marlins and Cubs. The Braves are just a half-game back. The Phillies (80-62) would be in Atlanta in the first round of the playoffs if the season ended today.
